The Mary E. Campos Scholarship honors her dream to see young people, especially students of color, continue to study and fill positions of leadership within their communities.

 

The scholarship is given to Al Éxito students who are engaged in their community, have a clear vision for their academic achievement, and need support.

Application Open

The Mary Campos Scholarship application is due by February 16, 2026 by 5pm via email.

Application Process

 

The Al Éxito scholarship is based on Mrs. Campos’ principles for active community leaders, civic engagement, volunteerism, empowering the Latino community, and overcoming challenges. 

​

The candidate must be a graduating high school student or college student who actively participates in an Al Éxito program.

Candidate must show their dedication to Al Éxito, community service, education, and their culture.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE IN YOUR SUBMISSION

  • Completed and Signed Application

  • Typed personal essay of two pages max, typed in English, single spaced, 11 pt font, 1 inch margins 

  • List honors, awards, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement

  • Biography and Photo

  • Proof of GPA (Explanation not meeting GPA requirement if applicable) 

  • Copy of College Acceptance or Attendance

Requirements to participate:​​​​

  • Applicant is a graduating from high school senior or an undergraduate college student up through their junior year.

  • An active participant of an Al Éxito program

  • Has at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.  If minimum GPA requirements are not met, please provide an explanation in addition to essay questions.

  • Completed at least 10 hours of community service within the past school year.

  • Has completed the application and attachments by online submission only by 5 PM, February 16, 2026, to gabby@alexitoiowa.org.

Acerca de Mary E. Campos

La Sra. Campos es miembro de varias juntas y consejos como la Comisión de Derechos Civiles de Iowa, la Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos (LULAC) y es muy activa en la iglesia. La Sra. Campos también fue una de las fundadoras del National Black and Brown Forum. La Sra. Campos continúa asesorando a jóvenes y adultos y ayudando a innumerables personas a obtener su ciudadanía.

Mary E. Campos es una célebre líder de derechos civiles en Des Moines, Iowa. Fue la primera latina en ingresar al Salón de la Fama de Mujeres de Iowa. Obtuvo un premio Ohtli, el más alto honor otorgado por el gobierno mexicano a un descendiente de mexicanos cuyos esfuerzos han contribuido significativamente al bienestar, la prosperidad y el empoderamiento de las comunidades mexicanas en el exterior.
