SUPPORTING THE ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP SUCCESS OF IOWA’S LATINX YOUTH Increasing high school graduation rates Help with college and career preparedness Culturally positive experiences and support For communities to thrive, every individual within it must have have the opportunity to thrive. Today, more than 200,000 (7%) Iowans are of Latino heritage. As our population continues to grow, so does that number. If the future success of a community depends on the positive futures of its youth, our responsibility is to ensure EVERY one of our community’s youth believes in their opportunity to succeed. Unfortunately, many of Iowa’s Latinx teenagers struggle with the belief that college and leadership roles are attainable for them. Whether they worry about affordability or feel unqualified, they deserve to know that support and opportunities exist for anyone who dreams of post-secondary education and/or a fulfilling career. Learn from college experts about resources, paying for college, tour the University of Northern Iowa and much more! Personalized, one-on-one support will provide valuable feedback and insights that can make a significant difference in their scholarship search efforts. Volunteer Role Details Task: Assist students in drafting their first scholarship essay. Support: Provide personalized feedback and insights. Objective: Ensure every scholar leaves with a strong essay draft to kickstart their scholarship applications. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Gabby@alexitoiowa.org : Call for College Student Leaders Al Éxito is seeking qualified dedicated college students to help lead a group of youth during the annual Al Éxito University overnight college camp. If you are a college student, who loves working with youth and want to make a difference in Latinx, first-generation students’ lives this will be a great fit for you!
